Murphy, NC – September 2009

Lisa, Ed, and I all set out Saturday morning for a day trip to Murphy, NC. We had a planned stop at Doyle’s Cedar Hill Restaurant, an establishment that none of us had been to, but one we were willing to try based on reviews we found online.

This is a shot taken while we ride along Highway 60 in Dahlonega. The views were nice, especially considering the ride to this point wasn’t too far from the house.

We were approaching Woody Gap while on Highway 60. This was the first time I took the land yacht into the Dahlonega/Suches area. Not too bad, but a bit stressful nonetheless. I was worn out by the time we got back.

We stopped at Woody Gap for a breather and a chance to stretch the legs.

Lisa snapped a photo of the view from Woody Gap. I love this area, and I love that it is so close to the house.

At this point in the ride, we were approaching Gaddistown, Georgia. Never been here, but the scenery was nice.

Lisa couldn’t resist getting a shot of Ed’s freshly painted helmet. I suggested that he add ears and a tail, but he has yet to listen to my suggestion. I’m thinking about getting him a set for Christmas.

We have reached the outer edges of Murphy, North Carolina. By this point, we are all starving and hoping that Doyle’s will be as good as the reviews suggested.

Downtown Murphy was interesting. I wanted to stop and walk around what appeared to be an old town, but time didn’t permit for this particular trip. Our goal was lunch and home, so I will have to add Murphy to my short list of destinations for a future ride.

We made it to Doyle’s. I have to say that the place was an oddity. The building is an old house, and it shows. The waitstaff is made up of a strange mix of tattooed and not tattooed, young and old. The few patrons that were there were either sporting their finest cowboy getups or their finest (and obviously expensive) jewelry. The food? The food was fantastic! I will definitely keep this restaurant on my list of destinations.

It was a great ride and not too long. It took about three hours to get there, and round trip mileage was about 250.
