Hogs For Habitat – May 2009

Several friends and I went on a charity ride called Hogs for Habitat. The goal was to raise money to help build houses for the needy. There was a good turnout, and the ride was a blast. There were several planned stops along the way, ending with lunch at Lorena’s Food & Spirits.

Parked and Ready to GoWe started the ride by meeting at the old Barrow County Courthouse in Winder.  There were all types of bikes present, but the majority were Harley-Davidsons.

Everyone Getting Pictures Before the RideThere were plenty of people taking advantage of the early morning meeting to grab some pictures of friends and bikes, as well as just relax and talk for a while.

Stopped At Dakota's in AuburnOur first stop was Dakota’s in Auburn. The Auburn Police Department assisted with traffic control which was greatly appreciated. Everyone took the opportunity at this first stop to get something to drink to help with the heat.

My FJR and Lisa's HarleyMy FJR is parked next to Lisa’s Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider, and our friend Tim’s Honda CBR (the yellow bumble bee looking thing to the left) is parked nearby. That is his second CBR, since he wrecked his first one after hitting a patch of sand in Suches last year. Luckily he wasn’t hurt, but the bike was totaled.

Bikes Parked in Front of Dakota'sSome of the bikes got front-row parking.

A Strange RideWe headed to Frazier’s Harley-Davidson after leaving Dakota’s. When we arrived, I stumbled across this odd looking contraption. It was a mish-mash of chrome, tape, and rust, but it ran just fine… I guess.

Checking Directions One More TimeWe then headed on to Gainesville Motor Sports for a quick stop. Well… it was supposed to be a quick stop, but we spent a bit of time checking and re-checking the directions to make sure we knew where in the world we were going. I’m still amazed that we made it.

The Last Stop of the DayBut made it we did… the last stop of the ride was Lorena’s. We stayed for a while, had lunch, and talked with friends, some of which I hadn’t seen in a while. It was a good time, and my understanding was that there was a good amount of money collected, which made it all worth while. I really enjoyed the ride, and the fellowship, and I look forward to the next opportunity to ride and contribute.
